Hepatitis B Elimination Program

Leading the Fight Against Hepatitis B in Nigeria

Overview:
Hepatitis B remains a silent epidemic in Nigeria, with a high prevalence rate that poses a significant public health threat. SCHF is at the forefront of national efforts to combat this disease through a multi-pronged approach that combines prevention, early detection and improved access to treatment. Our program aims to reduce the burden of Hepatitis B, prevent new infections, and improve the quality of life for those affected.

Key Activities:

Targeted Vaccination Programs:
SCHF implements vaccination drives in high-risk communities, focusing on vulnerable populations such as infants, healthcare workers and individuals with chronic liver disease.
We advocate for the integration of Hepatitis B vaccination into routine immunization schedules and work to overcome barriers to vaccine access.
Public Awareness and Education Campaigns:
We conduct extensive campaigns across various media platforms (radio, social media, community outreach) to raise awareness about Hepatitis B transmission routes, prevention methods (including vaccination), and the importance of early screening.
Our educational materials are developed in local languages to ensure broad accessibility and understanding.
Community-Based Screening Initiatives:
We organize free or subsidized Hepatitis B screening camps in rural and underserved areas, facilitating early diagnosis.
Our teams provide pre- and post-test counseling, ensuring that individuals understand their status and receive appropriate guidance.
Linkage to Care and Treatment Support:
For individuals diagnosed with Hepatitis B,SCHF facilitates linkage to specialized medical care and provides support for treatment adherence.
We work with healthcare providers to enhance their capacity for managing Hepatitis B cases and advocate for affordable access to antiviral medications.
Advocacy for Policy Change:
We actively engage with policymakers and government bodies to advocate for stronger national policies on Hepatitis B prevention, control and elimination.
This includes advocating for increased funding, improved surveillance systems, and the inclusion of Hepatitis B services in primary healthcare.
